I recently came across a new brand of men’s loungwear, Alki (pronounced AL-k’eye). If you’re new to Alki, like me, they started in 2009 with the idea of finding something comfortable for me to lounge around the house in that’s more comfortable than althletic shorts or sweats, yet more stylish that pajama shorts.  The first version, for personal use, were a pair of hospital scrubs cut into shorts.  Pretty rough, but gave Scott Greeban, the idea to launch the brand Alki.

In looking at style, comfort and quality, I’m pretty happy with my Alki lounge shorts.  In terms of style, they have succeed in finding a style that is stylish enough for answering the front door in or running out to your mailbox in without the neighbors looking at you strangely.  These remind me of board shorts, but with a lightweight material.  The color options available are broad, though few, to cover most tastes.

For comfort, I tried a Large (I’m a 34 inch waist).  The waist fit was fine, though didn’t allow for much cinching of the string and would have like a bit more room for lounging in or sleeping in.  Don’t get me wrong, these were comfortable if I was looking for a true fit like a pair of shorts for wearing out and about.  For loungwear, though, I look for a bit more room for letting things hanging naturally and freely.  If you prefer a looser feel, you may want to go up one size.  It’s interesting that they started with hospital scrubs as these reminded me quite a bit scrubs, but with a board short look.  The cinch of the waistband and the feel of the material (100% woven cotton) was quite similar to scrubs.  All-in-all, I was quite comfortable in these and with sizing up one size, these would have been superior for me.

For quality, the material selection and stitching was great.  The overall quality was pretty good and would expect Alki to be around for awhile as they continue to grow their product.
